Feature Films

The filmmaking landscape is ever-changing, and Kickstart has worked hard to stay adaptable by producing films for both high and modest budgets. Our success has aided in helping us to establish trusted global financing partners which affords us the unique position to create a wide range of films, and to fully finance them independently.

Over the last two years, Kickstart has produced several independent feature films, including the Sundance Film Sweetwater, which starred Ed Harris, January Jones and Jason Isaacs, Intramural, which stars Nikki Reed and Kate McKinnon and Bounty Killer, which opened the Fantasia Film Festival.  Most recently, we completed A Country Called Home, which starred Imogen Poots and Mackenzie Davis.

Television has always been a priority for Kickstart and we are dedicated to developing and creating the most entertaining content possible. Recently, Kickstart setup Garth Ennis’s critically acclaimed graphic novel Preacher at AMC and Sony TV with Original Films. Other recent success includes an effective collaboration with Walden Media and Arc Entertainment to produced the television films: Pete’s Christmas, Nim’s Island 2 and The Hunters, which premiered on the Hallmark Channel.

Kickstart also developed and produced the 22 episode series Painkiller Jane for the SyFy Channel. Other previous pilots include Nobody (ABC Family), Johnny Dynamite (NBC) with Dick Wolfe, Ms. Tree (Oxygen), Athena, based on the graphic novel Headache, for Chernin Entertainment, Demonika (MTV) and Hench (NBC) with Film 44. In the kids space, Kickstart produced the live-action children’s series Dance A Lot Robot for Playhouse Disney.

Kickstart has had a long successful history in animation. With the ability to provide script to delivery production, our strong creative team has developed all types of material with such known franchises as Voltron, Wolverine & The X-Men, and Robotech, to original series such as SheZow, Finley the Fire Engine and Happy Monster Band. Our work has aired on most major animation networks, including: NBC, Cartoon Network, Nicktoons, The Hub and Playhouse Disney.

Kickstart has the ability to produce in all mediums and formats, and has garnered attention for being highly creative and amusing. To date, Kickstart has produced animated content for television, feature length, animated specials, Webisodes and Shorts. We specialize in 2D Animation, 3D Animation and Hybrids (live action & animation). Our animation studios located in Vancouver and Hong Kong, led by an incredibly dedicated and talented production team, with two decades of experience.

Visual Effects

Kickstart has a full-service visual effects division specializing in premiere effects and animation for every budget level. We source and coordinate with the best talent and teams across the globe.  From New York to London, Los Angeles to New Dehli, our creative team produces exceptional work that exceeds our client’s expectations—every single time. Services include visual effects, particle effects and fluid dynamics, lighting and rendering, compositing, as well as 2D and 3D animation.

Because of the emergence of our visual effects division, we are able to combine traditional production services with post-production capabilities, creating a one-stop shop that rivals few production houses. In many cases, we can create and deliver at every stage in the production pipeline. Not to mention, Kickstart is able to breakout our vfx services to meet a client’s particular need.

Launched in 2010, Kickstart Publishing has been a welcomed addition in developing and delivering content. Since its inception, we have published twenty-eight graphic novels. We have created valuable partnerships with mega-retailer Walmart, as well as other major book retailers, ensuring our books get into the hands of the widest audience. All of our titles are available on iBooks, Nook, Amazon and other major digital distribution chains. We have experienced great success with our publishing line, and that’s because our literary content effortlessly merges into the rest of our production pipeline.

We have found publishing to be an incredible creative resource and cherish the artists and writers we work with. Many of our titles have already been setup or exploited into a variety of long-form media including the feature film Bounty Killer,  and television movie The Hunters (based the graphic novel Mirror, Mirror). We are currently working with Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray on adapting their wildly celebrated graphic novella: Random Acts of Violence, which has been adapted, will be directed by and star Jay Baruchel. It is currently in pre-production for summer 2015.
